Audition Requirements

Songs

Two Contrasting Musical Theatre Songs, 32 Bars Each

One uptempo and one ballad

All songs must be memorized

Preparation

Bring sheet music printed and in a binder for accompanist

Music must be marked appropriately

Monologues

Two Contrasting One-Minute Monologues

One dramatic and one comedic from published plays

All monologues must be memorized

Dance

Dance Combination

Taught at the audition and performed in small groups

Bring jazz and/or tap shoes if available, or prepare to dance barefoot or in socks

Attire

Athletic attire that allows free movement and shows the line of your body

No jeans, jewelry, or hats

Video Dance Audition

45-90 second video including turns, jumps, leaps, high kicks, and quick footwork

Separate tap skills video appreciated if applicable

Additional Materials

Headshot

Headshot preferred, but any close-up photo accepted

Transfer Pathway

UCM lists an official State Fair Community College AFA Musical Theatre to BFA Theatre articulation agreement. The pathway supports transfer into the BFA Theatre degree, with admission still subject to UCM criteria and program availability/openings.

What's The Process

Audition Format

Four parts: group dance audition, monologues, songs, and interview

School-provided accompanist for songs

Auditions held during Theatre & Dance Visit Days on campus

Video auditions accepted with equal consideration

Response within 2-3 weeks of audition/interview

Be prepared to discuss answers from your Theatre & Dance Admission Form

Bring questions to ask faculty

Dress professionally for monologue/song portions

Submit via the Theatre & Dance Admission Form

Each monologue and song should be a separate video

Dance video: 45-90 seconds with turns, jumps, leaps, high kicks, quick footwork

Film at a distance showing full body

Ensure good sound, lighting, and video quality
