Audition Process
•Bullet: Audition required for departmental admission; no student may declare any music major without this audition
•Bullet: Audition also determines scholarship eligibility
•Bullet: Complete the Basic Musicianship Evaluation (brief test of rudimentary music skills)
•Bullet: Piano placement audition also required (proficiency not required for admission)
•Bullet: November 22: 1st deadline for department review
•Bullet: January 24: 2nd deadline for department review
•Bullet: February 28: final deadline for scholarship consideration
•Bullet: May 1: NASM binding date for undergraduates
Audition Expectations
•Bullet: In-person by appointment on Audition Days
•Bullet: Zoom audition by appointment on Audition Days
•Bullet: URL submitted through Music Department Application (last resort)
Sight-Reading
•Bullet: Sight-reading is part of the audition
Repertoire & Technique
•Bullet: Two contrasting movements from any solo work (concerto, sonata, etc.) or standard studies for your instrument
•Bullet: Region etudes are acceptable for brass
•Bullet: Strings: two or three contrasting works or movements
•Bullet: Percussion: prepared solos across snare drum, keyboard, and timpani (All-Region/All-State pieces are acceptable)
•Bullet: Piano accompaniment is not required
Scales & Technique
•Bullet: Three scales selected from all major and minor scales (woodwinds and brass)
•Bullet: Strings: one scale of your choice in three octaves
