Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Dance

Audition Format

Participate in dance classes of various techniques

Take part in discussions, improvisational activities, and choreography activities

Live audition material is generated during the audition; no prepared choreography is needed

Video Option

Available when the applicant's home address is more than 300 km from the University of Calgary

Video audition material should be recent and should not exceed 12 minutes

Questionnaire prompt: briefly describe previous dance experiences, including styles studied, length of study, setting, and performance experience

Statement of Intent

Statement prompt: explain why you wish to pursue a degree in Dance at the University of Calgary

Address your specific interest in the degree and how it supports short-term and long-term plans

What's The Process

Audition Process

Select in-person or video audition in the UCalgary application

In-person auditions are preferred

Applicants within 300 km are expected to attend the live audition

In-person and video auditions are reviewed by the BA/BFA Dance Committee

Attire

Wear close-fitting clothes that are easy to move in

Footwear may be barefoot, soft jazz shoes, moccasins, or socks

Hair should be tied back and jewelry removed
