Repertoire
•Prepare repertoire in either a classical or jazz genre of study (guitarists focus primarily on one)
•Classical focus: two pieces — one by Carcassi, Sor, Bach, or Tarrega, and a second of the applicant's choosing
•Jazz focus: "Perhaps" or "Billie's Bounce" from memory, improvisation over blues progressions, and a list of five prepared jazz standards
-Demonstrate Major 7th, minor 7th, and dominant 7th chords plus major and melodic-minor scales in multiple keys
-Standards may be played with a student-provided backing track or the house rhythm section
•Contemporary option: two contrasting solo transcriptions (rock, metal, progressive, bluegrass, blues, country, or world)
-Performed along with the recording, with a hard-copy transcription for each faculty reviewer (three copies)
•All guitar auditions include sight-reading and ear-training; chords and scales are demonstrated during the audition
