•The two-year Undergraduate Arts Certificate in Performance lets a student concentrate entirely on applied study in Brass, Guitar, Harp, Organ, Percussion, Piano, Strings, Voice, or Woodwinds

•The core curriculum is weekly applied lessons and a master class with an artist-faculty member in the student's area, credited at the same studio level as the Bachelor of Music degree

•All music students are assigned to large and/or chamber ensembles as part of the curriculum, with assignments made in consultation with the major teacher

•Certificate students complete a graduation recital in their second year, following the same capstone model as the Bachelor of Music degree

•Certificate applicants prepare the same application recording and audition repertoire published for their instrument or voice in the Bachelor of Music audition requirements

Application Logistics

•The certificate is offered in Brass (trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba and euphonium), Guitar, Harp, Organ, Percussion, Piano, Strings (violin, viola, violoncello and double bass), Voice, and Woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone)

•The School of Music application for 2026-27 is closed; prospective applicants may submit a late application request for the upcoming academic year

•Application fee: $95 for domestic applicants and $130 for international applicants

•Fee waivers are accepted through SAT, ACT, or NACAC request processes

•Submit the initial UNCSA application before uploading documents and recordings in the Admissions Portal

•Applying to a second UNCSA arts school requires a separate application and fee

Audition Process

•The application recording is submitted with the application materials as a prescreen

•Applicants who qualify are invited to schedule a faculty audition

•Contact the Music Admissions Counselor at the School of Music with questions about the audition process

Audition Expectations

•Auditions are primarily held in person on the UNCSA campus

•Applicants unable to travel may request a live virtual audition from their admissions counselor

•A Chicago audition opportunity may be available and is recorded for later faculty review

•UNCSA arts schools may award institutional scholarships for artistic merit demonstrated through the audition

•Undergraduate Arts Certificate students are not eligible for need-based financial aid
