Audition Requirements

Dance

Barre Work

Maximum five minutes; show only one side of each combination

Include pliés, tendus, adagio, and grand battements

Center Work

Maximum five minutes

Include adagio and a pirouette combination with en-dehors and en-dedans turns

Include petite allegro and, if space permits, grand allegro

Male applicants should include tours en l'air to the right and left

Female applicants should include échappés, retirés, and double pirouettes en-dehors and en-dedans on pointe

Classical Variation

Video applicants present a one- to two-minute classical variation; female applicants perform on pointe

On-campus applicants learn the classical variation during the audition

Dance Photos

Male ballet applicants also upload a dance photo in first or second arabesque

Statement

Submit a two-page artistic statement about interests, goals, and artistic development

Application Logistics

Deadline to apply for the 2027-28 school year is January 20, 2027 (Priority Application Date: November 2, 2026)

Application fee: $95 for domestic applicants and $130 for international applicants

Fee waivers are accepted through SAT, ACT, or NACAC request processes

Applying to a second UNCSA arts school requires a separate application and fee

What's The Process

Audition Process

Choose either a video audition or an on-campus audition

Do not upload a video when planning to audition on campus

Applicants who upload a video are treated as video-audition applicants and do not receive on-campus scheduling instructions

Audition Expectations

On-campus slots are limited, so submit early for the best date selection

Required documents are due no later than two weeks before an on-campus audition

Merit Scholarships

UNCSA arts schools may award institutional scholarships for artistic merit demonstrated through the audition

Undergraduate Arts Certificate students are not eligible for need-based financial aid
