Audition Form
•Bullet: School of Music Form: complete in the UNC Application Portal; it includes a summary of your musical experience and a list of your past teachers
Video (Conducting Video)
•Bullet: Choral conducting (Master of Music and Doctor of Arts): submit a pre-screening conducting video with your application to the School of Music, before being granted an in-person audition with the choirs; it includes both performance and rehearsal footage, totaling no more than 15 minutes, to be reviewed by the Director of Choral Activities
•Bullet: The video should include 1-2 works in performance of contrasting styles; the rehearsal footage is to be unedited; both performance and rehearsal footage should have the conductor clearly visible (frontal view); provide a YouTube or Vimeo link
•Bullet: Choral conducting video audition (out-of-state): if a live audition is not feasible because of out-of-state or out-of-country residence, a video recording (20 minutes) of you conducting your own ensemble in either a performance or a rehearsal (camera angle facing the conductor)
•Bullet: Orchestral conducting (Master of Music and Doctor of Arts): recent conducting video(s) containing ideally both performance and rehearsal footage, with at least two contrasting works required; the conductor should be clearly visible (frontal view preferable); videos are YouTube or Vimeo links
•Bullet: Wind conducting (Master of Music and Doctor of Arts): a conducting video that includes both performance and rehearsal footage, totaling no more than 15 minutes, to be reviewed by the Director of Bands; it should include 1-2 works in performance that depict contrasting styles, the rehearsal footage is to be unedited, and the conductor should be clearly visible (frontal view); videos are YouTube or Vimeo links
Repertoire List
•Bullet: Choral conducting live audition repertoire: prepare two contrasting choral works to be conducted in front of the top mixed choir before the choral faculty, and plan to conduct and rehearse each piece; one is a piece of your choice that you introduce and the other is a piece with which the choir is already familiar; the audition lasts approximately 15-20 minutes
•Bullet: Orchestral conducting list of works: a list of works conducted in rehearsal and/or performance; for performances, include the date of the performance and the name of the ensemble
Letters of Recommendation (Required)
•Bullet: Request three (3) academic or professional letters of recommendation from those who can attest to your musical and academic potential and abilities; you will be asked to supply information for your recommenders in the application
Transcript (Required)
•Bullet: Request one official transcript from each institutionally accredited college or university where a bachelor's degree or higher was earned or is in progress (if you have earned multiple degrees, bachelor's level or higher, an official transcript is required from each college or university where a degree was conferred); if you received a degree from UNC, you do not need to request a transcript from UNC
•Bullet: The Office of Admissions does not accept transcripts directly from applicants: official transcripts are mailed by the institution in an unopened, sealed envelope, or sent electronically by the issuing institution to grad.admissions@unco.edu
