Training
•60-credit, 4-semester MFA track (admission every other year) built on Major Studies (39 credits) in process drama, devised theatre, puppetry, and a directing project required every semester, plus Academic Studies (12 credits) in theory/history and young-audience-specific coursework and Supportive Studies (9 credits) in acting, arts management, and independent study.
•Curriculum follows guidelines set by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE).
•Program head is Rachel Briley, Full Professor and Artistic Director of the North Carolina Theatre for Young People (NCTYP), a professional touring company housed within the School of Theatre and founded by longtime UNCG professor Thomas Behm, who led the company for 34 years before Briley's tenure.
Performance & Productions
•Students work across both the School of Theatre's Mainstage/Studio seasons and NCTYP's own season, which includes a touring production every spring that plays schools and community venues across North Carolina.
•Assistantship duties span acting, dramaturgy, directing, assistant directing, community engagement, and devising work with young audiences.
