Training
•The BM in Music Education (120 credit hours, 3.0 minimum GPA) leads to K-12 licensure and lets students choose among four specializations — Choral/General, Instrumental/General, Instrumental/General Jazz, or Popular Music education — each with its own methods coursework and ensemble load, per the UNCG catalog.
•Licensure coursework includes student teaching and seminar, two semesters of conducting, and classroom-application courses tailored to each concentration; instrumental tracks add instrument-repair training.
•Choral-track students complete a foreign-language requirement (French, German, or Spanish) alongside choral methods, while instrumental and jazz tracks draw on UNCG's steelpan, world-music, and jazz ensembles for licensure-track performance credit.
•Incoming students may test out of Fundamentals of Music, and piano-track students can satisfy the recital requirement through accompanying rather than solo performance.
Professional Development
•Disciplinary Honors (3.30+ GPA, 12 honors credits, Senior Honors Project) carries certificate and transcript recognition at graduation.
