UNCG allows students to submit the prescreen and attend a Final Audition before applying to the university, but students seeking merit scholarship consideration should apply to UNCG by December 1, 2025.

Final Audition virtual spots are limited and reserved for students traveling great distances, so plan for an in-person campus day when possible.

MTCP Song Option A

Two Contrasting songs, 60-90 sec each

One song written before 1970 (musical theatre, Golden Age, pop, hip-hop, folk, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)

One song written after 1970 (musical theatre, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)

Should contrast the style of the first selection

Tips

Contrasting examples: fast vs slow tempo, sustained melodic vs speech-like singing, dramatic vs comedic, belt vs head/falsetto mix

Must sing to musical accompaniment — no a cappella

Monologues

MTCP Monologue Option A

One monologue, 60-90 sec

From a published play or written by a professional writer

A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced but may not have been professionally published

Tips

Choose age-appropriate monologues (within 5-10 years of your actual age) authentic to your culture and experience

Active monologues that take place in real time are often more successful than stories or remembrances

Dance

MTCP Dance Option A

Dance SAMPLE, 60-90 sec

Show your best version of dancing or moving

Include at least one turn, one jump, and one kick (or suitable rotation, elevation, extension)

Any dance discipline — jazz, ballet, tap, modern, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, or other styles

Can be self-choreographed but must be a solo video

May use recent video from a show or concert if you are alone in the frame

Choose steps and movement that highlight your strengths

MTCP Resource Page has choreography videos for applicants without access to a combo

Ballet

Optional Ballet Sample

If submitting, show your best version of ballet

Include: brief series of plié, tendu, and grande battement, a pirouette en déhors (both sides), and one or more grand jeté across the floor

Requirements

Optional, but strongly encouraged — UNCG wants to know you as a person, not only as a performer, and would love to receive a Wild Card if you are able to provide one.

Use this as an opportunity to show your personality or share something meaningful about yourself.

The media may feature anything you choose, such as a special skill, personal story, passion speech, instrument you play, or another response to: "What do you want us to know about you?"

What's The Process

Audition Process

Submit prescreen materials via Acceptd by January 15, 2027

UNCG participates in the Musical Theatre Common Prescreen (MTCP) for the 2026-2027 cycle

If invited to a Final Audition, you will receive instructions about what to prepare

Audition Expectations

Final Audition Days are full-day experiences beginning at 9am and continuing into the afternoon

The day includes a panel and Q&A, presentations by BFA faculty and current students, student engagement, and campus tours
