Training
•Housed in UNCG's School of Music, continuously accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) since 1938, with concerts staged in the 350-seat Tew Recital Hall.
•BA students take class piano (three progressive levels) unless exempted as keyboard majors, plus 6 credits of musicology/ethnomusicology and 6 credits of upper-level electives in technology, composition, or history.
Degree Flexibility
•The BA in Music (120 credit hours) pairs applied and academic music study with a required minor in a separate discipline (or a double major) rather than a single-track conservatory curriculum, per the UNCG catalog.
•Students choose a music theory track in classical, jazz, or popular styles and complete Speaking of Music and Writing Through Music courses before a senior Capstone Seminar in Music Studies or a Senior Honors Project.
•Ensemble options extend past standard band/choir/orchestra participation to include steelpan and world-music ensembles alongside large-ensemble credit.
•Disciplinary Honors is available with a 3.30+ GPA and 12 credits of contracted honors coursework.
