Training
•Core curriculum requires Understanding Media, Introduction to Media Production, a film/media history course (Introduction to Film History or History of Digital Media), and a Professional Practice course built to develop internship readiness, portfolio development, and alumni-network connections.
•Beyond the core, majors choose from roughly 50 elective courses across production (cinematography, lighting, sound, editing, directing, animation, documentary), writing (broadcast newswriting, creative copywriting, screenwriting), and theory/analysis (film theory, media theory, gender and media culture), plus emerging-format courses in virtual production, Unreal Engine filmmaking, and gaming and esports production.
•The degree requires 120 total credit hours, at least 36 in Media Studies courses with 36 hours at the 300 level or above, and a capstone Seminar in Media Studies or a Media Thesis Production project.
•A departmental honors track (3.30 GPA minimum) adds 12 credit hours culminating in a senior honors project.
