Audition Requirements

Monologues

ONE CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUE, 60-90 SECONDS (Freshmen)

Comedic or dramatic
Ideally from a published play, but not required
Material you feel connected to and excited to perform

TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 60-90 SECONDS EACH (Transfers)

No more than 3 minutes total
Comedic or dramatic, contemporary or classical
Should demonstrate range and versatility

ADMISSION PROCESS

Must be accepted to UMBC by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Audition process can begin as long as a university application is on file

ELIGIBILITY

Current UMBC students changing majors must audition before or during their first year
Email theatre@umbc.edu before changing majors for a smooth transition
All BFA Acting majors must maintain a C or above in all studio courses

What's The Process

AUDITION FORMAT

Live audition followed by faculty interview
In-person auditions held on UMBC campus
Virtual auditions performed live over Zoom — pre-recorded videos not accepted
All auditions begin at 10:00 AM EST; check-in starts at 9:45 AM
Students seen in order of sign-up

SCHEDULING

Sign up via the UMBC Theatre BFA in Acting Audition Form (Google Form)
Confirmation email with details sent after form submission
Linehan Artist Scholar applicants use a separate registration form

AFTER THE MONOLOGUE

Faculty may ask about your interest in UMBC Theatre, recent roles, other academic interests, and career goals
Interview is casual — no scripted answers needed
