Repertoire List
•Bullet: Woodwinds: one movement from a major work (concerto, sonata, or contest piece) plus one piece of your choice (etude or solo)
•Bullet: Brass: two contrasting movements of a solo or etude that display your best tone, technical ability, and expressive interpretation
•Bullet: Strings: two solos or etudes of contrasting styles (sonata movement, first movement of a concerto, or concert solo) demonstrating intonation, rhythm, bow control, and tone
•Bullet: Percussion: a snare drum solo or etude (Peters, Cirone, etc.) and a two- or four-mallet keyboard percussion work on marimba or xylophone
•Bullet: Percussion optional additions: drum set styles, timpani solo or etude, multiple percussion solo, rudimental snare solo, additional keyboard percussion work, or orchestral excerpts
•Bullet: Percussionists supply their own sticks, mallets, and copies of prepared material
Scales & Technique
•Bullet: Woodwinds: chromatic scale and all major scales over the full range of the instrument
•Bullet: Brass: as many major scales as possible, including at least three sharps and three flats; two-octave scales encouraged, at a comfortable tempo
•Bullet: Strings: major scales (2-3 octaves) up to four sharps and four flats at a steady tempo; MMEA All-State Orchestra scales may serve as a guide
•Bullet: Woodwinds, brass, and strings may be asked to sight-read (strings: first position, plus third and fourth positions for cello, up to two sharps and flats)
•Bullet: Piano as primary instrument: prepare 15 minutes of memorized solo piano repertoire from at least two historical periods, four-octave major and harmonic minor scales hands together, and a short sight-reading example, and also audition on a secondary wind, percussion, or string instrument
