Application Logistics

Complete the UIndy application before scheduling your audition

Schedule your audition through the Music Audition Portal using the same login credentials

Sign-up deadline is two weeks before each audition date

Licensure

Prepares students for the all-grade (P-12) Indiana teaching license in Instrumental & General Music or Vocal & General Music

Includes 120+ hours of field experience and two eight-week student-teaching internships

Graduates complete the required Indiana state licensure exams and an EdTPA portfolio

Placement

Admitted students take a music theory and ear-training placement exam at the audition-day theory exam — for course placement only, not admission

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

Entrance audition on your principal instrument or voice with prepared repertoire

Sight-reading and scale proficiency

Interview with Music Department faculty exploring your interest in teaching music

Brief music theory and ear-training placement evaluation

Full-day event from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET (lunch provided)

School-provided accompanist available at no cost — request when scheduling

Decisions

Results emailed within one to two weeks after audition

Scholarship Info

Music Scholarships

Competitive scholarships awarded based on entrance audition performance

Only music majors are eligible for departmental scholarships

Must audition before the priority deadline (February 19, 2027) for scholarship consideration

Ensemble grants available to non-major students who contribute to vocal or instrumental ensembles
