Application Logistics

Complete the UIndy application before scheduling your audition

Schedule your audition through the Music Audition Portal using the same login credentials

Sign-up deadline is two weeks before each audition date

Track Structure

Clinical-Oriented track — audition on your primary instrument, then rotate through lessons on clinical instruments (typically one year each of voice, percussion, guitar, and piano) instead of continuing on your primary instrument

Declare the clinical-oriented track during the audition process or by the end of your first year

Degree completed in 4 years plus a required internship; an accelerated 3.5-year option is available

Placement

Admitted students take a music theory and ear-training placement exam at the audition-day theory exam — for course placement only, not admission

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

Entrance audition on your primary instrument or voice with prepared repertoire

Sight-reading and scale proficiency

Interview with Music Department faculty

Brief music theory and ear-training placement evaluation

Full-day event from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET (lunch provided)

School-provided accompanist available at no cost — request when scheduling

Decisions

Results emailed within one to two weeks after audition

Music Scholarships

Competitive scholarships awarded based on entrance audition performance

Only music majors are eligible for departmental scholarships

Must audition before the priority deadline (February 19, 2027) for scholarship consideration

Ensemble grants available to non-major students who contribute to vocal or instrumental ensembles
