Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Dance

Ballet Video (Required)

•Show body alignment from the front and side

•Include barre, center, and across-the-floor exercises

Modern/Contemporary Video (Required)

•Include floorwork, inversions, turns, traveling moves, leaps or jumps, changes of direction, and rapid or complex footwork

•Demonstrate artistry and performance qualities

Optional Video of Your Choice

•Share another dance style or movement activity connected to your dance skills

Optional Video #3: Your Choice

•The dance faculty would love to see what else you do besides modern and ballet

•Can be another dance style or another movement activity connected to your dance skills

Good to Know

Application Logistics

•Complete both the University of Houston application and the School of Theatre & Dance application

•Students may audition before being accepted into the University of Houston

•Dance auditions are online only; no in-person audition is conducted

•Three audition-video submission dates are posted for the 2025-2026 cycle

Admission Pathway

•BA Dance offers a flexible curriculum for paths including physical therapy, kinesiology, private studio teaching, and somatic practices

•Students interested in dance education can pursue an Education minor; UH notes the current Texas dance certification pathway leads to the Dance 8-12 exam

What's The Process

•Submit 2-3 short videos according to guidelines via the SOTD application portal

•Videos must be from within the recent year

•KGMCA merit-based scholarships available for academic and artistic achievement

•Out-of-state tuition waiver available for students receiving competitive UH scholarship of $1,000 or more
