Training
•33 hours of certification coursework layered onto the dance major, taken across nine semesters (eight for the degree plus a dedicated student-teaching semester).
•Dance-education sequence includes DANC 3010 Laban Movement Analysis & Bartenieff Fundamentals, DANC 3700 Teaching Dance for Children, and DANC 4700 Issues in Dance Education and Pedagogy, paired with EDUC 2110/2120/2130 foundations and KINS 5620 Adapted Physical Education.
•Hands-on teaching practica (DANC 3200 and 3210) place candidates in real classrooms before a 12-credit student-teaching capstone (DANC 5460).
Professional Development
•Candidates apply to the dance-education track by November 1 of the second year and maintain a 2.5 GPA prior to student teaching.
•Certification benchmarks include the GACE admission assessment and the EdTPA performance assessment completed during the student-teaching semester, with a two-year Foliotek portfolio documenting growth and a DANC 4000 seminar to prep for EdTPA.
