Audition Requirements

Dance

Technique Class

In-person auditions include ballet (not en pointe), contemporary modern, jazz, improvisation, and West African dance

Solo

Prepare a one- to two-minute solo, choreographed by you or another choreographer

Bring music on a phone with the appropriate adapter, an online music service, CD, or USB drive

Virtual Audition

Submit the four movement phrases provided to applicants and attend an individual Zoom interview

Attire

Wear solid-color dance or athletic clothing that shows body alignment

Bottoms should extend below the knee and tops should cover the midriff

Additional Materials

Headshot (Required)

Submit a full-length photo in dance attire; do not use a costume, makeup, or performance photo

Statement (Required)

Write one to two paragraphs about your interest in becoming a dance major, your interest in UGA Dance, and your future goals

Video (Virtual Audition Only)

Submit one YouTube, Vimeo, or Dropbox link showing the four movement phrases provided to applicants

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Apply to both UGA and the Department of Dance; current UGA students skip the university application step

Department applications are due October 20, 2026 for the October audition, January 26, 2027 for the January audition, or February 9, 2027 for the virtual audition

The Department of Dance Acceptd selector for the October 23 audition is open for submission; the January 29 and February 12 rounds remain closed on the portal as of this review

Admission Pathway

Freshmen and transfer applicants complete the same dance-major audition process

Students entering before a formal major audition may receive provisional status after passing the first-day placement audition and must complete the next scheduled formal audition

Dance A.B. applicants must apply to UGA and submit the Department of Dance application through Acceptd

In-person auditions are strongly encouraged; applicants unable to travel may use the virtual option

In-person auditions include a technique class, individual interview, and solo performance

The department has published three 2027-28 audition options and their application deadlines

The Acceptd portal is currently accepting applications for the October 23, 2026 in-person audition round (application deadline October 20, 2026)

Dance Scholarships

Every applicant auditioning for Dance A.B. admission is considered unless they opt out

For 2027-28, limited $1,000-$2,000 awards may be available to freshmen, with additional Lucy Lampkin and Friends of Dance awards for continuing students
