Training
•Bullet: Composition applicants complete the same School of Music admission process as other BM applicants, including the piano requirement shared with Music Theory and Music History and Literature majors — an original work of J.S. Bach, a Mozart or Beethoven sonata movement, and a Romantic/Impressionistic/Contemporary work performed from memory, with sight-reading.
•Bullet: The School of Music's undergraduate auditions page states: "For applicants in Music Composition, MTPE is part of the composition interview process," combining the theory placement check with a composition-specific interview.
Performance & Productions
•Bullet: Composition students become members of the "UD Society of Composers, Inc. Student Chapter" and "Still Breathing: The University of Delaware Contemporary Music Ensemble," an ensemble "dedicated to performing the works of living composers."
•Bullet: New Music Delaware, described by the school as "a university faculty ensemble and event organization with a highly successful 40-year history," is also "dedicated to performing and promoting the works of living composers," and student composers hear their works performed at "master classes, workshops, reading/recording sessions, new music concerts and new music ensembles."
