Training
•General Music Studies combines focused study in General Music Studies within the BA Music Studies curriculum with UCSB’s broader research-university resources.
•Students develop critical, historical, technical, and creative skills through sequenced coursework and faculty mentorship.
Professional Development
•Campus productions, ensembles, screenings, laboratories, internships, independent projects, and Santa Barbara arts organizations provide practical experience.
•Students may pursue honors, research, professional preparation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
•The no-emphasis BA maximizes student choice across both coursework and performance classes.
•Compared with Western Art Music and the BM routes, it intentionally carries fewer performance-course requirements.
Degree Flexibility
•Published electives and project work allow students to shape the program around individual artistic and scholarly goals.
