Training
•Bullet: General Track students may declare the BA Music major by the end of freshman year, with no audition, jury, or portfolio required to enter
•Bullet: General is the most flexible of the BA Music program's four tracks, combining coursework across performance, composition, and music history/theory rather than concentrating in a single discipline
•Bullet: All BA Music students, regardless of track, complete a keyboard proficiency examination as a core degree requirement
•Bullet: General-track students can join any of the department's 12 ensembles — including Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, UCR Chorale, Javanese Gamelan, Taiko Ensemble, and Mariachi Los Alteños — and enroll in the MUS 080/180 private-lesson series
Facilities
•Bullet: The department is home to the Center for Iberian and Latin American Music (CILAM), directed by Professor Walter Aaron Clark, which sponsors the Otto Mayer-Serra Award and publishes the journal Diagonal
•Bullet: The weekly Florence Bayz Music Series brings faculty, postdoctoral researcher, and visiting-artist concerts and research talks to ARTS 157 each Wednesday at noon, free and open to all majors
