Training
•General Track students may declare the BA Music major by the end of freshman year, with no audition, jury, or portfolio required to enter
•General is the most flexible of the BA Music program's four tracks, combining coursework across performance, composition, and music history/theory rather than concentrating in a single discipline
•All BA Music students, regardless of track, complete a keyboard proficiency examination as a core degree requirement
•General-track students can join any of the department's 12 ensembles — including Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, UCR Chorale, Javanese Gamelan, Taiko Ensemble, and Mariachi Los Alteños — and enroll in the MUS 080/180 private-lesson series
Facilities
•The department is home to the Center for Iberian and Latin American Music (CILAM), directed by Professor Walter Aaron Clark, which sponsors the Otto Mayer-Serra Award and publishes the journal Diagonal
•The weekly Florence Bayz Music Series brings faculty, postdoctoral researcher, and visiting-artist concerts and research talks to ARTS 157 each Wednesday at noon, free and open to all majors
