Training
•The Music Minor requires 18 credits across three categories: six credits of music theory (starting from Music Fundamentals and Ear Training, MUSI 1011-1012, for students with no prior training), six credits of music history (options include Popular Music and Diversity in American Society, Non-Western Music, Jazz History, and Music, Culture, and Difference in Globalization), and six credits of music electives
•No prior musical training is required to declare the minor, and elective credit can include ensemble participation, additional theory or history coursework, secondary applied lessons, or independent study
Degree Flexibility
•Students already performing in a departmental ensemble can arrange secondary applied lessons (MUSI 1221) with the consent of the Department Head, subject to limited enrollment
•Dr. Paul McShee coordinates the Music Minor for prospective and current students
