Program Recognition
•The five-year Integrated BM/MA Music Education program awards three credentials together: a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the Neag School of Education
•Connecticut teaching certification earned through the program is accepted through reciprocity agreements in 38 other states
Training
•Students complete seven semesters of applied lessons on their primary instrument (MUSI 1222/3222), three at the upper-division level, alongside core music coursework shared with every music major and core education coursework shared with all education majors
•Three school-based clinical placements cover general, choral, and instrumental music across urban and suburban Connecticut districts, followed by a full semester of student teaching and a year-long inquiry internship focused on educational leadership
Professional Development
•The program is co-directed by Dr. Cara Bernard and Dr. Joseph Abramo; admission to the graduate component requires an application, interview, and music-skills assessment through the Neag School of Education during a student's third semester
