•Instrumental Performance majors complete eight semesters of Applied Music (MUSI 1222/3222), with a promotional jury at the end of sophomore year required to advance into upper-division study
•Core coursework in music theory, history, instrumental pedagogy, and conducting builds the performance study on a strong academic foundation
Performance & Productions
•Required half- and full-degree recitals, solo convocation performances, and master classes give every instrumentalist a formal performance track record
•Ensemble placement auditions route students into UConn's roughly 28 annual ensembles, including chamber music groups, with about 130 performances staged each year

•Samuel DeCaprio (BM 2012) became a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow at The Juilliard School and won the 2018 Aldo Parisot Prize
•Sarah Brady (BM Flute Performance 1998) is principal flute with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and heads the Classical Contemporary Music Program at Boston Conservatory at Berklee
•Tim Riley (BM Horn Performance 2006) toured North America with The Lion King

•Recitals and performances are staged at the 470-seat von der Mehden Recital Hall and the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, described by the department as one of the largest college-based presenting programs in New England
