Prescreen Video
•Bullet: Submit one continuous video showing the following genres in order: Jazz, Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Modern/Contemporary, after a brief spoken introduction
•Bullet: Introduction (no more than 30 seconds): state your full name and whether you are applying as a first-year or transfer student, then answer: "What specifically draws you to the UC Irvine Department of Dance, and how does it align with your goals as an artist?"
•Bullet: Jazz (30 seconds): demonstrate a combination in any jazz style that includes rhythmic syncopation and traveling through space; turns should be performed from a bent-knee plié position
•Bullet: Ballet (30 seconds): demonstrate développé à la seconde and first arabesque; double pirouettes both en dehors and en dedans from fourth position; petite allegro incorporating jeté, glissade and assemblé
•Bullet: Hip-Hop (30 seconds): demonstrate a combination in any hip-hop style that includes body isolations and footwork
•Bullet: Modern/Contemporary (30 seconds): demonstrate a modern or contemporary combination incorporating movement through the spine, upper-body drop swings and a roll into and out of the floor
•Bullet: Frame your recording so your full body is visible throughout each combination; use a well-lit space with a clean, unobtrusive background
•Bullet: Maximum total running time: 3 minutes, including the introduction
•Bullet: All applicants must complete every genre section
•Bullet: Record in a well-lit dance studio or open room with safe flooring
•Bullet: Late submissions will not be accepted
•Bullet: Prescreen dress and footwear, Jazz: fitted dancewear or comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement; bare feet or soft-soled jazz shoes
•Bullet: Prescreen dress and footwear, Ballet: solid-colored leotard and tights, unitard, or other fitted dancewear; tights, if worn, should be full length (no shorts or skirts); ballet slippers
•Bullet: Prescreen dress and footwear, Hip-Hop: comfortable clothing appropriate for movement and reflective of typical Hip-Hop attire; please avoid clothing with visible labels, pictures, or slogans; sneakers
•Bullet: Prescreen dress and footwear, Modern/Contemporary: fitted dancewear or comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement; bare feet or socks
•Bullet: No other materials, including resumes, photos, or recommendation letters, are required or accepted
