Prescreen Requirements

Dance

Prescreen Video

Submit one continuous video showing the following genres in order: Jazz, Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Modern/Contemporary

Include a brief spoken introduction before dancing

Maximum total running time: 3 minutes, including the introduction

All applicants must complete every genre section

No other materials, including resumes, photos, or recommendation letters, are required or accepted

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Submit the UC application as a UCI Dance major during the October 1–November 30, 2026 filing period

Submit the required prescreen through the UCI Dance audition portal by December 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time

The audition portal is currently being prepared for the Fall 2027 cycle and is expected to open later in summer

The BFA specialization is selected after enrollment; there is no separate first-year BFA application

Transfer Pathway

Transfer applicants audition for Dance and must declare BFA intent at the entrance audition. The Performance specialization is declared after enrollment, with technique placement determining the student's minimum time to complete requirements.

What's The Process

Two-Phase Entrance Audition

Every Dance applicant submits a required prescreen video by December 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time

Prescreen results will be released by January 8, 2027

Only invited applicants advance to an in-person audition on January 23 or February 6, 2027

The same entrance audition applies to BA and BFA pathways

Post-Enrollment BFA Selection

Students enter UCI as Dance majors

Performance may be declared in spring of sophomore year

Choreography requires faculty approval after enrollment
