Training
•Faculty include Chair Kristopher Fallon, who directs the department's Media Lab; Michael Neff and Joshua McCoy, joint appointments with Computer Science specializing in character animation and AI-driven game design; and Colin Milburn, the Gary Snyder Chair in Science and the Humanities, who researches media theory
•The 60-unit BA has no declared track — students choose a personal balance of up to six production courses and up to six theory/history courses, culminating in research papers and creative production portfolios rather than a single mandated thesis film
Facilities
•Production facilities include a Mac computer lab, sound lab, and electronics lab in the Art Annex, plus the Cruess Hall Media Lab (opened 2021) and the Alt-Ctrl Lab, where Associate Professors Patrick LeMieux and Stephanie Boluk lead students in retro-hardware hacking and custom game-controller design
•Screenings and lecture courses use two dedicated Cruess Hall theaters seating 200 and 85
Study Abroad
•A Cinema and Media Studies study-abroad pathway routes students through Zurich, the Locarno Film Festival, and the Cannes Film Festival
