Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Song Requirements

Prepare one musical theatre song excerpt of about one minute.

Use a concise cut that shows acting and vocal choices.

Bring your own backing track without vocals; a cappella performance is allowed if needed.

Monologues

Monologue Requirements

Prepare two monologues with a combined maximum of six minutes.

One monologue must be Shakespeare and one must be contemporary, written from the 1960s onward.

Choose material suited to your age and range and perform in your regular speaking voice.

Dance

Movement Requirements

Prepare one movement piece of about one minute.

Dance training is not required; the piece may be dance, imaginative movement, physical discipline, mime, or another movement-based form.

Suggested length is roughly 32 bars up-tempo or 16 bars slow; bring your own music if using accompaniment.

Additional Materials

Statement

Required: submit a one-page letter of intent.

Resume

Required: include training, performance, theatre, and related experience.

Headshot

Required: submit a current headshot or clear photo.

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Apply through the UAlberta online undergraduate application and choose BFA Acting.

High school applicants are advised by the department to choose BFA Acting as first choice and BA Drama as second choice.

Submit the BFA Acting audition form by February 4, 2026; the BFA Acting university application deadline is May 1, 2026.

New applicants pay 150 CAD; current or former UAlberta students pay 100 CAD.

What's The Process

Audition Process

The audition process is approximately 30 minutes and includes performance pieces plus an interview or conversation with faculty.

UAlberta lists Edmonton auditions for February 14-15, 2026 and callbacks for February 21-22, 2026.

Applicants who cannot attend in person may request a Zoom audition option.

Scholarships

UAlberta lists several undergraduate Drama awards and scholarships for students in Drama programs.
