Songs

MTCP Song Option C

Choose Either Option A or B

OPTION A: One song written before 1970 + one song written after 1970 (any style: musical theatre, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)

Second song should contrast the style of the first selection

OPTION B: One musical theatre song from any time period + one song of your choice in any style

Monologues

MTCP Monologue Option A

One Monologue

One monologue from a published play or written by a professional writer

A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, but may not have been professionally published

Dance

MTCP Dance Option A

Dance

Show us your best version of dancing or moving

Include at least one turn, one jump, and one kick (or other suitable rotation, elevation, and extension that works for your body)

Ballet

MTCP Ballet Option B

Ballet Optional

Ballet is optional

If submitting: brief series of plié, tendu, and grande battement, a pirouette en déhors (both sides), and one or more grand jeté across the floor

Application Logistics

Program participates in Musical Theater Common Prescreen

Submit prescreen materials through UA's Acceptd portal

Students invited to audition for both Acting and Musical Theatre must submit a separate Acceptd application for each concentration

Eligibility

Must be academically admissible to UA for Musical Theatre audition consideration

UA says the 2027-2028 scholarship deadline has not been announced; follow UA scholarship deadlines when applying

What's The Process

Audition Process

Submit MTCP prescreen materials via Acceptd by November 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST

Must be academically admissible to be considered for a Musical Theatre audition

Students invited to audition for both Acting and Musical Theatre must submit a separate Acceptd application for each concentration

Prescreen decisions determine invitation to the on-campus auditions

Audition Expectations

Invited applicants choose one on-campus audition date: January 16, 2027 (Musical Theatre only) or February 6, 2027 (Acting and Musical Theatre)

You do not need to attend both days

More details are sent to invited students via the email submitted on Acceptd

Auditions are held in person on campus; students who need to audition virtually must request it by emailing thtrdnce@ua.edu
