Portfolio / Creative Sample
•A composition portfolio is required for admission — choose Option 1 or Option 2 below
•Option 1 (portfolio of compositions): submit 2-5 original works in any genre, including concert music, film, animation, or video game music
-For each work, include a score in PDF form and a recording — a live recording when available, otherwise a MIDI mp3
-Add a written statement of 100-500 words describing your intention and aesthetics
-Choosing Option 1 qualifies you to begin the Composition I sequence in your first year
•Option 2 (background and experience): submit a recorded performance of at least two pieces (accompanied or unaccompanied) at a basic-to-intermediate level, showing that you can read music
-Add written responses on why you want to study composition, the music you hope to create, and your musical background
-Choosing Option 2 lets you begin the Composition I sequence in your second year
•Upload all scores, recordings, and statements via the SOMD Admissions File Upload Page (link emailed after the SOMD application)
