Prescreen Requirements

Songs

MTCP Song Option B

Two Songs, 60-90 sec each

One musical theater song from any time period

One song of your choice in any style (pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)

Should contrast the style of the first selection

Must sing to musical accompaniment — no a cappella

If using pre-recorded music, place speaker closer to you than the recording device for balanced audio

Apps like Harmony Helper can generate piano tracks from sheet music photos

Monologues

MTCP Monologue Option A

One Monologue, 60-90 sec

From a published play or written by a professional writer (someone whose plays have been produced)

Age-appropriate (generally within 5-10 years of your actual age)

Authentic to your culture, background, and lived experience

Selection Tips

Active monologues preferred — takes place in real time, focuses on what you want

Avoid monologues not part of a larger work (play, screenplay, novel, TV script)

Avoid monologues relying on extreme emotions

Dance

MTCP Dance Option A

Dance Video

Required, 60-90 sec

Show your best version of choreographed dancing or moving

Include at least one turn, one jump, and one kick (or other suitable rotation, elevation, and extension that works for your body)

Any dance discipline you feel most confident in (jazz, ballet, tap, modern, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, or styles beyond American and Euro-western)

May be self-choreographed — must be a solo video of you

May use recent performance video if you are clearly featured alone

Ballet Video (Optional), 60-90 sec

Wildcard / Special SkillOptional

(optional) Think about the wild card section as an opportunity to show your personality or share something about you. This media can be anything you want - a special skill, an interesting story about yourself, a passion speech, an instrument you play, etc. "What do you want us to know about you?" Recommended length is 60-90 seconds, per the school's general video time guidelines.

In-person dance calls will be taught as one theatre jazz combination
