Requirements
•Two Contemporary Monologues (written after 1900), 60-90 sec each
•Age-appropriate (generally within 5-10 years of your actual age)
•Authentic to your culture, background, and lived experience
•Active monologues preferred — takes place in real time, focuses on what you want, direct communication with imaginary scene partner
•Must be from a larger work (play, screenplay, novel, TV script)
Avoid
•Do NOT perform pieces by Gabriel Davis, Don Zolidis, Kellie Powell, or Wade Bradford
•Avoid monologues that rely on extreme emotions
•Avoid stories or remembrances — choose pieces that happen in real time
Tips
•If you have to rush to fit the time limit, cut it shorter
•Do not watch yourself or practice in a mirror
•Writing from all mediums welcome (YouTube, TV, film, theatre, podcasts)
