Requirements
•Bullet: Two Contemporary Monologues (written after 1900), 60-90 sec each
•Bullet: Age-appropriate (generally within 5-10 years of your actual age)
•Bullet: Authentic to your culture, background, and lived experience
•Bullet: Active monologues preferred — takes place in real time, focuses on what you want, direct communication with imaginary scene partner
•Bullet: Must be from a larger work (play, screenplay, novel, TV script)
Avoid
•Bullet: Do not perform pieces by Gabriel Davis, Don Zolidis, Kellie Powell, or Wade Bradford
•Bullet: Avoid monologues that rely on extreme emotions
•Bullet: Avoid stories or remembrances — choose pieces that happen in real time
Tips
•Bullet: If you have to rush to fit the time limit, cut it shorter
•Bullet: Do not watch yourself or practice in a mirror
•Bullet: Writing from all mediums welcome (YouTube, TV, film, theatre, podcasts)
