Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Dance

Placement Audition

•45-60 minutes of ballet technique

•30-40 minutes of jazz technique

•30-40 minutes of modern/contemporary technique

•5-7 minute interview

Optional Solo

•90 seconds to 3 minutes in any style

•Not required; faculty may request if additional evaluation is needed

Attire

•Females: black leotard, optional short ballet skirt, pink/black/flesh-toned tights, ballet shoes, hair secured away from face, no jewelry

•Males: black tights or dance slacks, dance belt, white or black tee, ballet shoes

Additional Materials

Resume (Required)

•Dance training and performance resume

Letters of Recommendation (Required)

•Two letters: at least one from a dance instructor and one from an academic teacher

-Homeschooled students may submit both from dance instructors

Personal Statement (Required)

•500 words or more answering both parts of the prompt provided in the application

Photos (Required)

•Three photos (may be taken with cell phone, ensure clarity)

-Tendu in second position (full body visible)

-First arabesque en l'air

-Leap or jump

Unofficial Transcripts (Required)

Optional Video

•90-second video showcasing additional talents or interests (optional)

•Portfolio of images or other evidence of additional work (optional)

•Fall enrollment; BFA acceptance includes mandatory summer dance intensive (July 24 - August 30)

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Email audition@troy.edu to register and begin the process

•Register through the online application form on the TROY Theatre & Dance website

•Prepare application materials prior to registration (uploading from computer recommended)

Audition Results

•Notification via email within two weeks of the Monday following auditions

•Dance notification typically sent by April 1

•Mailed confirmation follows within one week of email

Acceptance Outcomes

•BFA Dance Major accepted: must participate in mandatory summer dance intensive (July 24 - August 30, no cost, may move into dorm)

•Not accepted to BFA: may begin the dance minor, encouraged to enroll in major classes; faculty re-evaluates after two semesters for potential upgrade to BFA

•Dance Minor accepted: begin work during first fall semester
