Training
•Bullet: Thirteen-course major requires Introduction to World Music, Introduction to Recording Arts, Understanding Music II, American Popular Music or Jazz: 1900 to the Present, Inventions and Revolutions in Music, and Milestones in Music, plus two adviser-approved electives
•Bullet: A senior project or thesis is required of all majors, taken for half or full credit and emphasizing either performance or research
•Bullet: Students may take consortium courses at the Hartt School of Music and perform with Capitol Symphonic Winds through the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education
Performance & Productions
•Bullet: At least four semesters of departmental performance participation are required (maximum two semesters of Music Lessons), through named ensembles including Instrumental Ensemble, Steel Pan Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Samba Ensemble
•Bullet: The department's annual Samba Fest, celebrates Brazilian and world music alongside the ensemble program
Facilities
•Bullet: The Gruss Music Center houses a Music Hall, a recording studio, four practice rooms, and an electronic music lab that support the major's recording-arts and performance coursework
