Scholarship Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Songs

Two Contrasting Vocal Selections

•Prepare two songs of contrasting styles, tempos, or languages that demonstrate your current abilities

•Both selections may be sung in English

•One selection may be from jazz, folk, or musical theatre

•A brief sight-singing or aural-recall excerpt may be requested

Accompaniment

•An accompanist is provided; bring a copy of the music for the accompanist

Additional Materials

Questionnaire

•Questionnaire response: describe your background in vocal and/or instrumental musical training

•Questionnaire response: list notable solo literature you have studied

•Questionnaire response: list teachers or instructors familiar with your musical abilities

Repertoire List

•Wind and brass: prepare three chromatically adjacent major scales over at least two octaves, an ascending chromatic scale over at least two octaves, and lyrical and technical solo material

•Percussion: prepare major scales, snare drum and timpani solo material, and two- and four-mallet repertoire; drum set styles may be added as a bonus

•Strings: prepare two contrasting pieces or movements totaling no more than ten minutes; a full-range major scale may also be requested

•Piano: prepare two contrasting solo pieces from the standard repertoire

•Complete the Music Scholarship Application & Audition Form only if seeking talent scholarship consideration

Admission Pathway

•Admission to the BA Music Education major follows university admission; the music audition is optional and used for scholarship consideration

•The current catalog lists Music Education as a standalone BA major, separate from the BA Music major and its Music Performance Specialization

Transfer Pathway

Transfer applicants can enter the BA Music Education program through the Yote Track after completing an AA or AS degree with a 3.0 GPA at a participating partner college. The College accepts up to 70 community-college or 90 four-year transfer credits, subject to course evaluation.

Audition Process

•The music audition is optional and used for talent scholarship consideration, not admission to the BA Music Education major

•Incoming students may audition during an on-campus personal visit, the Kathryn Albertson Scholarship Competition, a scheduled audition day, or virtually

•In-person auditions are held at the Langroise Center for the Performing & Fine Arts

Audition Expectations

•Faculty evaluate preparation, tone quality, stage presence, musicianship, growth potential, and department needs

•Instrument-specific preparation is published for wind and brass, percussion, voice, strings, and piano
