Audition Requirements

Dance

Solo Contemporary Video (Required for All Audition Types)

•1 minute contemporary solo

•May be self-choreographed or created by someone else

•Include the name of the choreographer in the video

Dance Photo (Required)

•Modern dance applicants may submit a photo of their choosing

•Professional quality not required

Dress Code

•Fitted biker shorts, leggings, tights, or fitted joggers/dance pants (must see ankle, knee, and hip joints)

•Leotards, tank tops, or fitted non-flowing tops

•Hair arranged so it does not cover face or interfere with alignment

•Film against background with strongest contrast; do not film in costume or into a mirror

Ballet

Requirements

•Virtual Audition — Modern Dance Video (max 12 min)

Technical Demonstration

•Begin with short technical demonstration in the tradition most familiar to you

•Exercises and combinations clear and concise, performed on both sides

•Mount camera on tripod; include alternate views (front and side)

Structure

•Warm-up (max 3 min): include floorwork, articulations of the spine, weight-bearing in upper body (inversions, one-arm supports)

•Center (max 3 min): movement traveling in and out of the floor, vertical and off-center alignment, weight shifts between one and two legs

•Traveling combinations (max 3 min): variety of levels, actions leaving the ground, dynamic balances

Evaluation Criteria

•Alignment, use of weight, dynamic range, spatial clarity, musicality, focus, connectivity, artistry/quality of presentation

Additional Materials

Introductory Video (Required)

•Introduce yourself and share: Why TCU? What do you hope to gain? What are your long-term dance goals?

•Choose one: last book read, movie seen, or place visited — why was it memorable?

Virtual Audition Additional

•Upload all media files separately — do not combine videos

•Both in-person and virtual audition options available

•In-person applicants submit solo video and photos via Acceptd in advance
