Audition Process
•Step 1: Apply and be admitted to Susquehanna University
•Step 2: Register for an audition via the River Hawk Portal
•Step 3: Audition on campus (preferred) or submit a video audition
Audition Expectations
•Vocal performance of three contrasting solo selections from memory
•Keyboard skills placement exam
-Play one piece showing current level of achievement
-Play major and minor scale and arpeggio patterns
-Read a simple melody at sight at the keyboard
-Students with no piano experience should gain general keyboard knowledge before audition
•Musicianship assessment
-Demonstrate basic pitch and rhythmic sight-reading ability
-Use of solfeggio encouraged but not required
•Music theory test
-Covers music theory fundamentals (intervals, chord types, basic notation)
-Formal high school theory course helpful but not assumed
•In-person auditions are preferred and afford the best scholarship consideration
•Video auditions available for students unable to travel to campus, followed by a virtual interview
•Comprehensive instructions available in the audition and scholarship brochure
•Sample lessons available with faculty before enrollment; contact the manager of music admission to arrange
Decisions
•Audition before April 1 for best scholarship consideration
•Audition spots filled on a first-come, first-served basis
