Audition Requirements
Songs
TWO 32-BAR MUSICAL THEATRE SONGS
•One song must be written before 1970
•One song must be a ballad
•Both songs must be memorized
•Must sing to musical accompaniment — no a cappella
ACCOMPANIMENT
•In-person: pianist provided
•Virtual: collaborate with a pianist or use a karaoke/piano track
ADDITIONAL OPTION
•Students with significant classical training may present an art song or aria in addition to the two prepared songs
Monologues
TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES
•One comedic and one dramatic
•Each piece under 1.5 minutes
•Both must be memorized
MATERIAL SELECTION
•Select characters within 5 years of your current age
•No period requirement
Dance
DANCE COMPONENT
•In-person: group dance call
•Virtual: 30–45 second clip of a style of your choice
-Styles may include ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip-hop, or a combination from a musical theatre production
ATTIRE
•Wear appropriately fitted dance or athletic clothes
Additional Materials
HEADSHOT
•Current headshot or photo required
RESUME
•Include personal goals as a theatre artist
•Relevant theatre experience
•Special skills and hobbies
•Other performance or athletic experience

DEADLINES
•Recommended audition deadline: March 6, 2026 for fall entry
•Transfer students for spring: submit by November 14, 2025
•Late auditions still considered — contact the department
APPLICATION PROCESS
•Must apply for admission to the college via Common App or SUNY Application
•Must also complete a separate audition for acceptance to the MT major

What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•Three parts: voice, acting, and dance
•Must demonstrate ability in all three areas
•Virtual and in-person auditions are both accepted
VIRTUAL AUDITIONS
•Accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed monthly
•Submit via the virtual audition form on the school website
PLACEMENT EXAMS
•Music theory and sight-singing placement exams scheduled at in-person audition or later for virtual candidates
