Training
•Entrance to the Performance Option is by audition: voice applicants prepare three contrasting, memorized art songs (including one in a foreign language) at NYSSMA Level VI; instrumentalists (brass, strings, winds, guitar, piano) prepare two contrasting selections, while percussionists prepare three selections (snare, timpani, and a melodic instrument)
•Geneseo provides an accompanist for the audition, which also places the student with a studio teacher and in a departmental ensemble
•Six semesters of ensemble participation (choral or instrumental organizations) plus six semesters of applied lessons on the primary instrument or voice
•A jury examination and a public performance — a Friday afternoon recital or an approved public event — are required every semester
Degree Flexibility
•Performance pathway within the 36-credit BA Music degree, paired with a full liberal-arts general education program
