Training
•Core curriculum covers Theory I-IV, music history, a research seminar, aural skills, and keyboard harmony/performance
•Minimum of four upper-level electives required, including at least 3 credits in musicology
•Faculty specializations span musicology, ethnomusicology, composition, and music technology, including Program Director Michael Lister and Assistant Professor Thomas Wilson, who teaches Music Technology and Game Audio

Performance & Productions
•Two semesters of ensemble performance required, chosen from chamber ensembles, marching band, percussion ensemble, pep band, jazz ensemble, symphony orchestra, symphonic band, chorale, or chamber singers
•Practice rooms, rehearsal spaces, the department library, and two concert halls support daily music-making
•Chamber Singers tour internationally performing standard and world repertoire under faculty direction

•Martha Mooke — pioneering electric five-string violist who has toured with David Bowie, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, and Peter Gabriel, and appeared on The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman
•Michael Lanci — composer whose protest songs won the American Prize, with commissions from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and a doctorate in composition from the University of Cincinnati
•Warren Burt — experimental composer and instrument builder who helped establish the music department at Australia's La Trobe University
•Robert Gluck — Professor Emeritus and author of books on Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi Band and Miles Davis's Lost Quintet, both published by University of Chicago Press
Degree Flexibility
•Accelerated BA + MS in Information Science option completes both degrees in five years, with up to 12 shared credits counted at undergraduate rates
