Training
•Bullet: Choral conducting is taught by Richard W. Robbins, the conservatory's choral conducting faculty member.
•Bullet: Three standing choirs form the rehearsal laboratory — Conservatory Choir, Shenandoah Chorus and Shenandoah Voices — each with its own voicing and repertoire remit.
•Bullet: Study concentrates on score analysis, diction and interpretive skill in the choral literature rather than solo singing; Shenandoah admits to this concentration separately from its band, orchestral and musical theatre podium tracks.
Performance & Productions
•Bullet: Choral programmes are given in Goodson Chapel – Recital Hall and Armstrong Concert Hall, inside a conservatory season of more than 400 performances a year.
•Bullet: Choirs are open by audition to any Shenandoah University student, so a student conductor rehearses singers drawn from the whole campus rather than music majors alone.
Professional Development
•Bullet: Side-by-side performances and guest-artist residencies place student conductors alongside working professionals.
