Training
•Bullet: The Jazz Applied Emphasis has its own published MPRT curriculum, separate from the Classical emphasis, and your instrument determines which one you complete.
•Bullet: Eight jazz applied areas feed this emphasis — jazz double bass, electric bass, electric guitar, jazz percussion, jazz piano, jazz saxophone, jazz trombone and jazz trumpet. Electric bass and electric guitar are offered on the jazz side only.
•Bullet: Private applied study and the aural acuity built in ensemble work are paired with recording, electronics, MIDI, digital audio workstations, popular songwriting, music production and live sound reinforcement.
Professional Development
•Bullet: Students design their own internships in music hubs such as New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville.
•Bullet: Graduates of the MPRT degree include Scott Kidd, a Nashville engineer and producer for Rascal Flatts, George Strait and the Wooten Brothers; Justin Derrico, guitarist for Pink; and Zach Fisher, a Nashville session drummer.
Facilities
•Bullet: The program has taken the Apple Distinguished Program Award three times between 2012 and 2018, and its facility runs integrated Apple mobile technology in the classroom.
