Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Dance

Requirements

90-second Solo Dance

First-year applicants encouraged to choreograph their own

Transfer applicants must choreograph their own

Contemporary, modern, jazz, or commercial styles

Should showcase technical skills (floor work, turns, movement connectivity), musicality, and performance expression

Restrictions

No classical ballet variations

No tap

No costumes—performed in same dance attire worn during classes

Music

Bring on phone, iPad, or similar device

Bring adapter if device is not Apple or lacks 3.5mm port

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

Full-day on-campus audition beginning at 9:00 a.m

Faculty presentation about Dance Division programs and campus tour

Participate in Ballet, Contemporary/Modern, and Commercial Jazz Styles classes

Creative exercise with faculty and current students

Present 90-second solo

Brief 7-10 minute interview with faculty

Complimentary tickets to dance concert that evening

Bring water bottle and small nut-free snacks (no lunch break scheduled)

Scholarship Info

Conservatory Scholarship

$2,000-$20,000 per year for Shenandoah Conservatory degree students

Awarded based on admission application, audition, and conservatory needs
