Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

•Two prepared selections: one highlighting technical facility and one demonstrating lyrical playing

•Studies or etudes at or above FBA All-State level

•Sonata or concerto literature at grade level 5 or above, plus orchestral excerpts where appropriate

•Choose repertoire representing contrasting periods and styles

•Chromatic scale and all major scales per current FBA requirements; extended range encouraged

•Repertoire/musicianship: sight-reading may be requested at the audition

Application Process

•Apply to Stetson University via Common App or school website

•Select a music major on your application

•After applying, contact Music Admissions to register for an audition at least seven days before your requested date

Audition Format

•Florida residents are required to audition in person on campus in DeLand, FL

•Out-of-state students may audition in person or request a virtual audition

•Virtual auditions: email Music Admissions, then submit recorded video links via the Hatter Portal Virtual Music Form (YouTube Unlisted preferred)

•Early Decision applicants submit video auditions via the Hatter Portal by November 8 and schedule a November faculty meeting

Admission Timeline

•School of Music decision sent the week following your audition date

•Talent scholarship amount included in your financial aid package

•May 1 is National Decision Day to commit

In-Person Audition

•Perform two contrasting prepared selections (technical and lyrical)

•Demonstrate scales and sight-reading

•Includes an ear-training exercise and an interview

•Skills assessment: basic music theory and aural training
