Audition Requirements

Monologues

Monologue Requirements

•60-90 seconds

•From a published play or written by a professional writer

•A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced but may not have been professionally published

•Monologues cannot be from musicals

•Age-appropriate material recommended (within 5-10 years of actual age)

•Active monologues preferred — real-time scenes with an imaginary scene partner work best

•Avoid monologues relying on extreme emotions

Wild Card

•No more than 60 seconds

•No slate required

•This media can be anything you want — a special skill, an interesting story about yourself, a passion speech, an instrument you play, etc.

•"What do you want us to know about you?" and "What makes you unique?"

Additional Materials

Statement of Purpose (Required)

•Short essay describing where you see yourself in 10 years and why you want to pursue a career on stage/screen

•Upload through Acceptd with your audition submission

•The Conservatory welcomes artists of all gender identities

Admission Pathway

•Musical Theatre applicants are automatically considered for BFA Acting for Stage & Screen placement

•Applicants seeking both Acting and Musical Theatre submit one audition using the Musical Theatre guidelines

•Applications without an audition are automatically considered for BFA Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies

Important Notes

•Submit the FAFSA using Stephens College code 002512

•Feb. 1 is the FAFSA priority date specifically for work-study and Access Missouri Grant consideration

•Undergraduate admission remains rolling after Feb. 1

Transfer Pathway

Transfer applicants to BFA Acting for Stage & Screen submit the same Conservatory audition package. Stephens publishes a general transfer-credit pathway for college courses completed with a C or better and a TES equivalency portal; credits receive final review, so this does not promise advanced standing in the accelerated acting sequence.
