Training
•The 18-credit Jazz minor is designed for music majors with a strong interest in jazz. Published study includes ensembles, improvisation, jazz history and arranging.
•Students learn to write jazz charts as well as develop improvisational and ensemble skills.
Performance & Productions
•Participation in one of SFA's big bands places the minor's arranging and improvisation study in an ensemble setting.
Professional Development
•SFA specifically connects the minor to learning how to teach jazz to others, adding pedagogical application to performance and arranging work.
Degree Flexibility
•The credential adds a defined jazz sequence to a student's existing music major; students work with an advisor to declare the minor and position its 18 credits alongside the primary degree.
