Audition Requirements
•Things you will need to complete this application:
•Resume, email addresses for two references that you will ask for letters of recommendation, transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable), and a repertoire list (optional)
• Guidelines
•Music majors choosing guitar as their major instrument must audition on a nylon string classic guitar using proper technique. Students should be prepared to play major and melodic minor scales through two octaves (preferably the Segovia fingerings, keys C-B). In addition, two pieces of contrasting styles from any of the following;
•Twenty Five Melodic and Progressive Studies, by M. Carcassi,
•Twenty Studies, by Fernando Sor,
•A movement from a Bach or de Visèe Lute suite,
•Or a short work by Francisco Tárrega
•In addition to fulfilling the classic guitar audition requirements, students who desire to study jazz guitar must demonstrate improvisational skills over a blues progression, have some knowledge of chord extensions, skill in reading a lead sheet, and be able to play a chord melody arrangement of a jazz standard such as Autumn Leaves, Misty, or other approved standard
