Training
•BA in Music (Curriculum 0786, 40-44 credits) covers four semesters of music theory and aural skills, two semesters of piano class, two music history electives, a music technology course, and a music-business/writing-about-music synthesis requirement
•Every music major completes 4 credits of applied instrumental or vocal instruction and 4 credits of upper-division ensemble participation, with concurrent enrollment required in Concert Choir, Mambo Combo, Symphonic Band, Gospel Choir, Guitar Ensemble, or Jazz Ensemble
•Students in private lesson study must present a solo performance each semester and attend five Music Department performances each semester
•The flexible curriculum lets students double major with another field on campus
•Full-time studio faculty include Dr. Karen Becker (piano), Daniel Gordon (saxophone), Timothy Morningstar (voice; choral director), and McLean Macionis (music technology)
Performance & Productions
•Beyond the required ensembles, students can join Minor Adjustments, the campus's only co-ed all-vocal a cappella group, or the Gospel Choir, which has performed internationally in Japan and the Caribbean and shared the stage with artists including Lyle Lovett and Daisy Jopling
•The department partners with the theatre program to produce a musical most fall semesters
Facilities
•The Audio Technology Lab equips students with 17 Apple iMac Pro workstations, a Yamaha 01V96 digital mixer, and Pro Tools, Logic, and MuseScore software
Value
•About 35% of music majors receive scholarships, including the performance-based Heisler Music Scholarship and an automatic Symphonic Band Scholarship open to any student who enrolls in the ensemble
